Fruit and veg makes us happy

Eating fruit and vegetables every day might just give you the same high as getting hitched.

A UK study of 45,000 people who added more fruit and vegetables in their daily diets were rewarded with both physical and emotional benefits.

Lead Author of the study, Dr Neel Ocean from the University of Leeds said: "Increasing the frequency of fruit and vegetable consumption from never to 4-5 days per week generates approximately the same estimated increase in life satisfaction as being married".

"Reducing fruit and vegetable consumption from 4 - 5 days per week to never generates approximately the same estimated loss in life satisfaction as being widowed," said Dr Ocean.

The study results are backed up by an Australian study of more than 7000 people, two years earlier, that found the probability of being diagnosed with depression or anxiety was inversely linked to fruit and vegetable consumption.
