Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is the commonest chronic disease affecting our society. It affects 30% of the population aged 50 years or more. With an ageing society, its prevalence is increasing. While hypertension usually has no symptoms, it can lead to severe complications such as stroke, heart attack, eye disease and kidney failure. Hypertension is known as the ‘Silent Killer’.
These complications can be prevented, however, by controlling hypertension and modifying other risk factors, such as smoking, obesity, sleep apnea and high cholesterol, through both non-drug and drug therapy.
The cost to the community if inadequately treated is significant both financially and in terms of the loss of quality of life.
“Thank you so very much for your kindness and care this past year! I am very glad to have something done about my hypertension. I am definitely feeling better than before which is fantastic!” (PT from Moggill)
